Colombo, June 8 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Warning for strong winds and rough seas, urging naval and fishing communities to take immediate precautions as hazardous sea conditions are expected to persist until 10.30 a.m. on June 9.
According to the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar will be very rough at times, accompanied by strong gusty winds reaching 60-70 kmph.
As a result, fishing and naval communities have been strongly advised not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.
Meanwhile, sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaittivu, and from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, are expected to be rough at times with strong gusty winds of 50-60 kmph.
The Department also warned that wave heights could increase to around 2.0 to 2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
