Police officer arrested for drunk driving

Colombo, May 18 (Daily Mirror) - A police officer attached to the Ayithiyamalai police station in Batticaloa has been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, Police said.

The police officer was arrested near the Kavantissa College in the Ampara Police area following a tip-off received by the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Ampara Divisional Traffic Division.

He was asked to appear before the Ampara Magistrate’s Court on May 23.

The police officer was suspended from May 17 by the order of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Batticaloa.
