Police conduct special operation in WP

Despite rumours that all police personnel in the Western Province had been stationed in their respective police stations last night, the Province's Senior DIG Nandana Munasinghe said that they were conducting a special crime operation covering all areas of the province.

He said a police message was sent to the OICs of all police station in the province on Wednesday ordering them to take part in the operation in their respective areas.

He said the operation was kept a secret. It was to nab offenders who had committed various crimes. “The raid continued from 11 pm last night till 2 am today,” he said.

The officers who were on leave were not recalled for the special operation, he said. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
