Colombo, May 11 (Daily Mirror) - The All Ceylon Communication Owners Association says it regrets the government’s decision to increase electricity tariffs, warning that the move has forced communication centres to raise service charges.
Association Chairman Indrajith Perera said that although authorities had previously claimed electricity tariffs were increasing due to corrupt practices within the Ceylon Electricity Board, questions now remain as to why electricity prices continue to rise in this manner.
He said that despite several previous electricity tariff hikes, communication centre owners had refrained from increasing service charges. However, due to the current situation, the association has decided to increase the price of a photocopy by between Rs. 2 and Rs. 5.
The association further stated that the prices of raw materials, including paper and toner, have also increased significantly, making it difficult for businesses to continue operating without revising charges.
It added that the decision was taken with regret, as the increased costs would ultimately place an additional burden on consumers.
