Colombo,June 23 (Daily Mirror)- Over 1.6 million drug tablets have been confiscated so far as Sri Lankan authorities ramp up a comprehensive national programme aimed at preventing drug use and supporting recovery efforts islandwide, according to the Government Information Department.
Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya said that drug abuse cannot be curbed through arrests alone and emphasised the importance of awareness and rehabilitation to reduce demand.
He noted that 1,253 kg of heroin, 2,122 kg of ICE (crystal methamphetamine), and 22 kg of cocaine have also been seized.
