There is no use in blaming the government while hiding one's inabilities. As public servants, our responsibility is not to escape from crises or blame those who caused them, Pavithra Wanniarachchi said today while assuming duties as the new Power Minister today.

She said there is a need of creating a situation where people can live without problems and we must work together to overcome this power crisis and be a strength to the people.

"During my previous tenure as the Power and Energy Minister, I was able to carry out that task very successfully. "At the time when I took over the ministry, the Petroleum Corporation had a huge debt running into millions. I was able to repay the loan and turn it into a profit making institution with the full support of the of Power Ministry, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and other institutions," she said.

Therefore, we should work together to add at least 109 MW of electricity to the national grid within this year, and pledging to bring the power sector back to a crisis-free, successful entity," she said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
