Northeast monsoon establishing over the island: Met. Dept.

The Northeast monsoon is gradually establishing over the island and, therefore, showers will occur in the Eastern, Northern, North-central, and Uva provinces as well as in Hambantota and Matale districts, the Metrology Department said.

They said fairly heavy rain of more than 50 mm could be expected in the above areas.

The department said thunderstorms would occur in the western, Sabaragamuwa, and north-western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts in the evening or night, the department said. 

Heavy rainfall above 75 mm can be expected in some places in these areas, they said.

During the morning, misty conditions are expected in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
