Colombo, July 1 (Daily Mirror) - Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake assured the public today that bus fares will not be increased despite the recent fuel price hike.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said that a scheduled bus fare revision was to be considered today following the fuel price increase announced last night. The new rates were calculated using the approved fuel price revision formula.

“Even after applying the fuel price formula, there is no need to revise bus fares at this time,” Rathnayake confirmed.

He added that the proposed fare adjustment was reviewed last evening, but the calculation results indicated that an increase was unnecessary under the current formula.

The Minister reassured commuters that the government remains committed to maintaining fair and affordable public transport fares, even amidst fluctuating fuel prices.
