Navy captures foreign fishing vessel with large haul of narcotics

A foreign fishing vessel carrying a large haul of heroin was seized by the Navy maritime patrol south of Sri Lanka's maritime boundaries along with seven crew members, the Navy said.

Navy Spokesman Capt. Indika de Silva said following a tip off received by the Sri Lanka Police, the Sri Lanka Navy conducted a special operation in the last few days to nab the foreign fishing vessels carrying large consignments of  narcotics.

The fishing vessel and the crew members were brought to the Port of Colombo and are to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.(DSB)
