Colombo, May 5 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer Namal Rajapaksa today raised a serious concern in Parliament regarding a Sri Lankan fisherman from Palali, Jaffna, who was allegedly assaulted and abducted and is now receiving medical treatment in Chennai, India.
According to Namal, the fisherman, identified as Ajanthan, was reportedly attacked and taken by a group of Tamil Nadu fishermen while at sea. He is currently undergoing treatment in Chennai for injuries sustained in the incident.
Namal urged the Foreign Affairs Ministry to intervene promptly and take the necessary diplomatic steps to ensure the fisherman’s safe return to Sri Lanka.
He also said that the victim’s family has lodged a complaint with the Palali Police but has yet to receive a response, raising concerns over delays in addressing the matter.
The incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by fishermen operating near the India–Sri Lanka maritime boundary. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
