A banner was reportedly displayed in the Mullivaikkal area of Mullaitivu expressing gratitude to Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown for establishing a Tamil genocide monument in Brampton, Canada.

However, when contacted by the Daily Mirror, Mullaitivu Police said a team had been dispatched to the location to investigate into the matter, and that the banner has since been removed.

Last week, Sri Lanka formally conveyed its strong objections to the opening of the monument in Brampton, Ontario, stating that such actions "complicate and undermine" the government’s ongoing reconciliation and national unity efforts.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath summoned the Canadian High Commissioner in Colombo and expressed the government's concerns regarding what it described as “unfounded genocide allegations” and the establishment of the memorial in Canada.
