Mother, child die after kite-string entangles motorcycle

A 35-year old woman and her one-and-a-half year old child have died, leaving her husband and another child injured in a bizarre accident when the motorcycle in which they were travelling skidded off the road after a nylon string of an abandoned kite entangled with the motorcycle.

Police said the accident took place near the Boossa naval base on the Galle-Colombo main road in Rathgama last night.

The husband of the deceased woman who was riding the motorcycle and their six-year-old child were injured and admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

The accident took place while the motorcycle was being ridden from Galle to Rathgama with the rider's two children and wife, were on their way to visit his parents.

The deceased were residents of Ginthota. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
