Colombo, May 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has urged the public to refrain from sharing social media posts containing images of children being circulated via a Facebook account under the name Nuwan Sandakelum.
The Ministry warned that the continued sharing of these images could harm the identity, privacy and wellbeing of the children involved.
According to the Ministry, the Facebook post in question claims that the individual’s wife has left him and their children, that he is struggling to care for his two children, and that he plans to give them away to anyone willing to take them before ending his own life.
The Ministry further announced that the Sri Lanka Police has already intervened in the matter. A court case concerning the family’s marital issues is currently ongoing, and the temporary custody of the children has been granted to their grandmother under the supervision of probation officers.
The Ministry added that, depending on the outcome of upcoming court proceedings, further intervention will be taken if necessary. Should the court decide on changes to the children’s custody or recommend institutional care, immediate action will be carried out through the Department of Probation and Childcare Services, which operates under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs.
