Mining and trade license validity period extended: Amaraweera

Considering the delay in the issuance of licenses due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera instructed the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) to extend the validity of the licenses which are being currently issued for mining and trade.

He said the GSMB has decided to extend the validity period of all excavation and trade licenses which are due to be extend till 2021.09.30.

He said the delay in the issuing of license would put them it difficulties to obtain the required raw materials for development projects and the mineral based manufacturing industry.

Therefore, the licensees must also ensure that the terms and conditions of those licenses do not exceed the approved mining and trading volume.
