Colombo, May 14 (Daily Mirror) - A low-pressure area located northeast of Sri Lanka continues to persist but is expected to move away from the island within the next 48 hours, according to the latest weather analysis issued on the morning of May 14.
The Department of Meteorology said cloudy skies will prevail over most parts of the country, with showers or thundershowers expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Northern provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura, Galle and Matara districts.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm is likely in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur in parts of the Uva Province after 1.00 p.m.
The public has been urged to take adequate precautions against possible damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
