Local authorities identify NZ knife attacker

Authorities have identified the Sri Lankan national who carried out the knife attack at a supermarket in Auckland, New Zealand, as a resident of Kaththankudy.

However, senior officers said that though the identity has been revealed about the attacker, further details could not be divulged as it was too early.

Local authorities are conducting investigations based on the information received from the New Zealand authorities about the suspect

Earlier, Foreign Ministry Secretary Admiral (Rtd) Jayanath Colombage said that  Sri Lankan authorities were ready to provide the required assistance for the investigations by the New Zealand investigators into the incident.

Seven people were injured in the attack that had been carried out by the Sri Lankan national, inspired by the Islamic State ideology.(DSB)
