A limited number of Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses, trains and buses attached to the National Transport Commission (NTC) will be assigned for inter provincial operation from August 1, Transport State Minister Dilum Amunugma said.
He said certified documents issued by the respective depot superintendents and the letters of approval by the NTC should be in possession of SLTB and NTC crew members.
"Those buses and trains will be permitted to operate only in the morning and in the evening to facilitate the office workers. No permission will be granted to those buses and trains to run at intermediate times, "he said.
People should keep in mind to act with responsibility when using the inter provincial transport services and be aware that these services are only for the benefit of the commuters who travel on essential services, the State Minister said.
"The COVID delta variant is spreading rapidly. If one infected passenger travels in a bus, there would be a chance of the entire passengers getting infected with the virus" he said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
