Colombo, May 8 (Daily Mirror) - The recently concluded National Super League (NSL) four-day tournament may have crowned Team Dambulla as champions, but it was the emergence of all-rounder Kavindu Pathiratne that stole the spotlight and strengthened his case for national recognition.

The NSL is widely regarded as a litmus test for future Sri Lankan cricket talent, and Pathiratne made the most of the opportunity with a series of match-winning performances throughout the tournament.

Team Dambulla clinched the title with a commanding 119-run victory over Team Colombo in the final, despite both sides featuring several established national players including Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Dhananjaya de Silva and Akila Dananjaya.

However, it was Pathiratne who rose above the rest with a stellar all-round display that shifted the momentum firmly in Dambulla’s favour.

The young cricketer produced a sensational spell of 5 for 51 in the first innings of the final and also showcased his batting ability earlier in the tournament with a patient knock of 78 against Team Kandy.

At a time when Sri Lanka continues to search for a dependable all-rounder capable of stabilising the middle order, Pathiratne’s performances have highlighted his potential as a genuine dual threat with both bat and ball.

His consistency throughout the tournament earned him both the Player of the Final and Most Valuable Player awards. He also finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 17 scalps.

Meanwhile, Sadeera Samarawickrama emerged as the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 384 runs and walked away with the Best Batsman award.

With Eran Wickramaratne newly appointed as Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket, attention will now turn to whether standout domestic performers such as Pathiratne will finally be rewarded with opportunities at the highest level.
