The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today lodged a complaint with the IGP over the slow pace of the investigations into the egg attack on JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Former JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.

He told the media after making the complaint that the police has not taken steps to record a statement from the two suspects arrested in connection with the incident and to arrest the other 16 suspects whose details were disclosed by the two.

He said the police have also failed to trace the person behind the attack as revealed by the suspects in their statement.

"We requested the IGP to intervene to ensure justice, democracy and the rule of law. We complained to him that proper investigation is not conducted by the respective police station where we lodged the complaint," he said.

He alleged that a private security firm was behind the incident and said that if the investigations were not conducted properly, it means that there was political involvement to the incident. (Ajith Siriwardane)
