Colombo, Jan 21 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Police have launched an investigation into Jaffna District MP Archchuna Ramanathan for allegedly disrupting police duties and violating traffic laws.

The incident occurred when MP Ramanathan was reportedly involved in an altercation with a group of police officers on traffic duty in the Rambewa area of Anuradhapura.

According to police, the MP's vehicle was stopped for obstructing traffic while using VIP lights. This led to an argument with the officers, during which the MP was said to have behaved in a disruptive manner.

In a video, the MP was seen questioning, “Are we not VIP? I should be allowed to travel to Parliament like the President and Prime Minister.”

Police spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga said that legal action will be taken against the MP under traffic laws and criminal procedures. The matter will also be brought before court.

The spokesman said that an investigation has also been launched to determine whether the MP made any remarks that could incite religious disharmony.
