Intelligence services reveal SLPP, UNP, SJB politicians maintain direct links with underworld: Minister

Colombo, May 20 (Daily Mirror) - Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said intelligence services have uncovered direct political links with underworld activities and the names of such politicians will be presented in Parliament after police investigations.

The Minister told parliament that according to intelligence reports former Ministers, Deputy Ministers, MPs and former and present provincial politicians of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), the United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) maintain direct links with 10 powerful underworld gangs.

He said investigations have been launched into the matter and police teams have been deployed to arrest the suspects.

The Minister said intelligence reports reveal that political links with the underworld has contributed to the escalation of underworld activities.
