Colombo, May 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), where winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres converge, is expected to significantly influence weather conditions over Sri Lanka, leading to an increase in rainfall from tomorrow (06), the Meteorology Department said.

Tonight, showers or thundershowers are likely at most parts of the island. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm may occur at several locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, Northern and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa District.

Tomorrow, showers or thundershowers are expected in most areas after 1.00 p.m. Cloudy conditions will prevail over the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces, as well as the Ampara District, with morning showers also likely in these areas.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces, and in the Ampara, Batticaloa, Galle, Matara and Polonnaruwa districts.

Misty conditions may occur in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the early morning hours.
The public has been urged to take necessary precautions against possible damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
