Colombo, June 16 (Daily Mirror) - The government has temporarily suspended the deployment of Sri Lankans for employment in Israel due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra said.
Speaking at a media briefing today in Colombo, he said the decision was made as a precautionary measure considering the prevailing security situation in the region.
“Given the current situation, travel to Israel for foreign employment has been temporarily halted. We will review the situation and take a decision in the coming days,” the Deputy Minister said.
He also urged Sri Lankan citizens currently in Israel and Iran to remain in close contact with the country’s embassies. “We have provided the necessary hotline numbers. If any issues arise, there is no barrier to reaching out to us. The safety of our citizens is our top priority,” he added.
