Colombo, June 22 (Daily Mirror) - The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has requested the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to launch an urgent investigation into what it described as a deliberate attempt to tarnish the union’s image through forged documents and false social media content.

In a letter addressed to the Director of CID, Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa, Secretary of the GMOA, said that a fake letter bearing his forged e-signature and a counterfeit GMOA letterhead is being circulated online.

The forged document, along with social media posts, allegedly makes false claims related to the recent arrest of a Consultant Neurosurgeon by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

Dr. Sugathadasa stressed that the GMOA, as a professional trade union, does not interfere with disciplinary or legal proceedings, but only ensures that due process is followed fairly. He expressed concern that the forged materials were created and shared by individuals with “vested interests and sinister agendas” to cause irreparable harm to the association’s reputation.

“The GMOA represents the vast majority of government doctors, and such malicious acts threaten to undermine public trust in our work,” the letter stated.

The GMOA urged the CID to take swift action to identify and prosecute those responsible, and also requested an appointment to discuss the matter further.
