Colombo, June 13 (Daily Mirror) - A group of former Members of Parliament has written to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake urging the government to uphold the rule of law amid growing controversy over the treatment of former State Intelligence Service Director General Major General (Retired) Suresh Saleh, who is currently in police custody.
The letter, titled “Let’s Uphold the Rule of Law,” was sent in response to an ongoing public debate regarding what the signatories describe as the harsh treatment of the former intelligence chief following his arrest.
The former legislators have called on the President to ensure that legal processes are carried out fairly and in accordance with the law, stressing the importance of protecting the rights of all individuals regardless of their position or background.
They further emphasized that adherence to the rule of law and due process is essential for maintaining public confidence in the country's justice system and democratic institutions.
The letter comes as discussions continue across political and civil society circles over the handling of the case involving Saleh, with differing views being expressed on the conduct of the authorities and the broader implications for governance and accountability.
