Colombo, January 31 (Daily Mirror) - Former Members of Parliament from the parties not represented in Parliament are to back the Opposition parties in Parliament to get more slots in various committees in the House, an MP said today.

Opposition MP Mano Ganesan told the Daily Mirror that Opposition parties that are not represented in the House decided to support the parties which are represented in Parliament to get more slots in various committees. This decision, he said, was made during yesterday’s meeting which various parties had with former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“The Opposition has no sufficient slots in almost all committees in Parliament. We have not been given sufficient slots even in friendship associations and caucuses. Therefore, we discussed the matter with former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and other former Members of Parliament. They pledged to back us to get more representation in committees,” Ganesan said.

The ruling party is of the opinion that it has to get a majority of slots in committees as it commands 70 percent of the seats in Parliament.
