Colombo, June 27 (Daily Mirror) - Former Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Harbour Corporation (CFHC) in 2012, Upali Liyanage, was released on bail today after being arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

He was arrested in connection with a project proposal allegedly forwarded to a Korean company named SCO.WOOD CO. LTD regarding a sand mining and purification operation intended to extract sand from fisheries harbours and release it to the local market. It is alleged that, without proper authorization and in violation of procedures, Liyanage had leased the relevant dredging machinery owned by the Corporation to the Korean company, thereby causing a financial loss of Rs. 26.2 million to the government.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayathunga granted bail to the suspect, with three sureties amounting to Rs. 5 million.
