Colombo, August 7 (Daily Mirror) - The first 500 meters of the Kadawatha-Mirigama stretch of the Central Expressway (E04) will be completed within the next two months (September), Deputy Minister of Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Prasanna Gunasena said.

He made these remarks during an event held to distribute new land title deeds to individuals who lost their properties for the first phase of the E04 project.

“The E04 is divided into four main sections Kadawatha to Mirigama, Mirigama to Kurunegala, Pothuhera to Rambukkana, and Rambukkana to Galagedara. Constructing expressways is essential for national development,” the Deputy Minister said.

Reflecting on the delay, Gunasena noted that although it has been ten years since initial work began on the E04, the public has yet to fully benefit from the project.

“It has been almost 10 months since this government came into power. Some may question why development projects have not been completed yet. But we have now reached a positive milestone,” he said.

Addressing those who had to part with ancestral lands, the Deputy Minister expressed gratitude for their sacrifice, calling the issuance of title deeds a key government responsibility in recognizing their contribution.

“This project has faced many challenges, including the selection of contractors, securing financial support, and setting completion timelines. However, we are now systematically resolving these issues,” he added.

The E04, once completed, is expected to significantly improve travel time and boost economic development across several regions.
