Evading tax payments due to valid reason cannot be considered a crime: Sajith

Colombo, May 18 (Daily Mirror) - Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today that there is a sinister move to amend laws penalising evading the payment of taxes due to a valid reason, while considering it a crime. 

Premadasa who met a group of tax and financial experts in his office today, said there is a move to amend laws to penalize those who fail to pay taxes due to valid reasons such as ill-health or travelling abroad.

This, he said, is against democratic norms. 

“Also, the government will push entrepreneurs into a fear psychosis,” he added.
