Do not organise school programmes disturbing Sunday school activities: Ministry

Colombo, December 22 (Daily Mirror) - The Education Ministry has instructed all government schools not to organise various programmes on Sundays, as they may disrupt Sunday school activities.

A letter issued by the Additional Secretary (School Activities), P.R. Kariyawasam, said that the Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry has requested the Education Ministry to emphasise the importance of allowing school children to participate in Sunday school activities.

The letter also noted that several requests have been made by various parties regarding the scheduling of Sunday schools. 

If school programmes need to be conducted, the Education Ministry has requested that these programmes do not overlap with Sunday school timings. Schools have been advised to take all necessary measures to avoid organising programmes on Sundays.
