SLTB to receive 600 new buses by year-end

Colombo, June 26 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Transport and Highways has announced plans to add 600 new buses to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) fleet by December in a bid to strengthen public transport services across the country.

The new fleet will comprise 200 luxury coaches to operate on expressways and 400 standard buses to be deployed on regular routes, the Ministry said.

Meanwhile, 104 newly procured Metro buses are scheduled to arrive in the country by August 15.

The buses will be equipped with card-based electronic fare payment systems and are expected to be deployed for passenger services by September 20.
