Customs net two suspects attempting to smuggle foreign currency worth Rs.11mn

Two suspects were arrested with €46,000 (equivalent to Rs.11 million) while attempting to smuggle the currency to Dubai this morning, Customs Deputy Director (Legal) and media spokesman Sudatta Silva said.

He said the suspects were arrested by the officers attached to the Customs Narcotics Control Division after long surveillance mission and investigation.

The suspects attempted to flee to Dubai in an Emirates airline he said.

This foreign currency was found hidden in their travelling bags. Further investigations are underway. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
