Covid vaccination given to child: Doctor, health officer transferred in Chilaw

A doctor in charge of a Covid vaccination centre in Chilaw along with a Family Health Officer have been transferred over an incident where a Covid-19 vaccine was administered to a 12-year-old child without the approval of the Health Ministry.

Accordingly, the doctor and the Family Health Officer of the vaccination centre at the Kokkavil Primary School in Chilaw have been transferred to the Covid-19 treatment centre at the Chilaw Base Hospital, Regional Director of Health Services in Puttalam Dr. Dinusha Fernando said.

She said the child that was administered with the Covid vaccine was the child of the doctor in question.

Dr. Fernando said an investigation was launched into the incident today and appropriate action would be taken against the two officers based on the outcome of the investigation.(Augustine Fernando)
