Constitution bound to fulfil rights, duties, responsibilities: promises fulfilled by public service: NP Governor

The rights of citizens under the constitution of any state, duties and responsibilities are bound to be fulfilled, and those promises are fulfilled by the public service, Northern Province (NP) governor Jeevan Thiagarajah said.

While addressing an event held in Northern Province in view of the International Human Rights Day, today he said if the rights, duties and responsibilities of the public service are neglected, it is considered to go against the constitution.

Access to clean air, as well as living without food scarcity and fear are civil rights. Therefore, public servants must be committed to this, he said. He also said that citizens also have a responsibility and a right to be governed by the law. (Chaturanga Samarawikrama)
