Carnival awaits Colpetty Marine Drive

The new and the extended stretch of Colpetty Marine Drive, from the Colpetty Railway Station towards the American Embassy will get it’s ideal + apt chance to host events, when the Happy Street Event, a first for Marine Drive itself, takes centerstage on 29 June, M Manoj, one of the main organisers, told the Daily Mirror.

This all-dayer, also called Marine Drive Coming to Life, is set to be staged in two-folds, 6-11 in the morning and 4-11 in the evening.

M Manoj, from the Darkod Entertainment event-organising company, explained, “This would be a pilot project to start with. Both the sides of the roads would be occupied with entertainment activities (sports + music) and food stalls. At the end of the road, a stage would be set up and artists would be performing. This would be a car park-free event.”

That 600-m stretch will be filled with hundreds of food stalls and various activities namely Zumba to Yoga sessions and much more.

The flyers and posters on Instagram alone, have already been widely shared and are going viral.

The main stage would be staging time-appropriate events.

Meaning, in the morning, there would be Zumba to Yoga sessions. As the day progresses, artists will be performing. Throughout the day too, events have been organised to keep participants enthralled and entertained, he said.

He also told renowned brands have been approaching but none have been confirmed so far, because they are particular to keep it as a balanced event since it is a free-for-all event.

“We also have got the green light for Jaffna, Galle, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya too,” he revealed.  

This concept is the form and norm in the streets of Chennai and Mumbai, which also has its own version of Marine Drive.
