Cap on retail price for Pulse Oximeters gazetted

An extraordinary gazette announces that the importer or manufacturer should print or mark in indelible ink the maximum retail price for Oximeters.

 A notification was issued yesterday stating the maximum retail price of the Fingertip Pulse Oximeter medical device, including several regulations.

The special gazette notification was issued by the Health Minister, Keheliya Rambukwella.

The regulations were made by the Minister under Section 142 of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority Act, No. 5 of 2015.

The gazette notification announced the Maximum Retail Price per unit of Fingertip Pulse Oximeter as Rs. 3,000.

Accordingly, the existing market price of the medical device at the date of publication should be sold at an existing market price without any addition to it.

The importer or manufacturer should print or mark in indelible ink the maximum retail price on the label of the commercial package or unit.

People who sell or charge for any medical device specified should issue a receipt that clearly indicates the approved name with or without brand name, model, type, size, pack size, and the price of such medical device as a separate item.

The introductory price is determined under section 118 of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority Act, No. 5 of 2015.
