In a situation where there are talks on reopening the country and a gradual decrease in number of COVID-19 infections and deaths, the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) emphasised that the country is still in the red zone in terms of the pandemic.

SLMA President Dr. Padma Gunaratne said the country is not yet out of the danger.

“We are currently at a juncture where the third wave is slowing down. However, there is always a possibility of another wave could emerge. Hence, it is imperative for people to make sure that health guidelines are strictly observed,” she pointed out.

“What is vital here is to decrease the PCR Positivity Rate if we are to experience an actual drop in cases and deaths,” SLMA President underlined.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath requested people, especially the youth to receive their COVID-19 vaccines without being choosy.

“We also ask people not to be carried away by false reports circulating on social media but to rely on statements conveyed by health authorities,” he added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
