“Ranil Wickremesinghe inquired from me about the plans I have in mind to fight organised crime and drug related offences.  Therefore, I briefed him about my plans. The then Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles was present at that time,” Tennekoon said.

He said he was nominated as the IGP by the former President after this briefing.

Tennekoon also revealed that he was offered the post of Security Advisor for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for a monthly salary of Rs. 250,000. He said he declined to accept this offer.
