Blacksmith, helper arrested for making illegal ’Cap Guns’

A blacksmith known as 'Yaka Baas' and his assistant 'Chandi' who have been manufacturing illegal weapons for the past 37 years, were arrested yesterday by the Anuradhapura police.

They were arrested from the Bendiwewa area in Moragoda, Galenbindunuwewa with three illegally made weapons.

Police arrested Yaka Baas with two weapons and Chandi with one. Those weapons fall under the category of 'Cap Guns', the police said.

Whole questioning the blacksmith further, the police revealed the suspect has been in the illegal business since 1988 and said he could not remember the number of weapons he had made till the time he was arrested.

The suspects are to be produced before the Court today. (Dayarathna Ambogama)
