Colombo, June 19 (Daily Mirror) - In a bid to further enhance passenger services and foster stronger industry collaboration, the Chairman and senior management of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) held a strategic meeting with the Board of Airline Representatives (BAR) this week.
The session was attended by country managers of leading international airlines operating in Sri Lanka. During the discussions, airline representatives shared their network expansion plans, outlining anticipated growth in both passenger and cargo volumes in the coming months.
AASL, in turn, presented updates on its ongoing and upcoming infrastructure development projects, with particular focus on the much-anticipated Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) Terminal 2 Project. A detailed progress report was delivered by a representative from the Japanese Airport Consultants, highlighting enhanced operational capacities and improved passenger facilities expected upon the project’s completion.
The primary objective of the meeting was to further strengthen the partnership between AASL and its airline stakeholders, ensuring that infrastructure development, resource planning, and service enhancements remain aligned with airline requirements and evolving global aviation trends. The stakeholders reaffirmed their shared commitment to delivering a seamless, passenger-centric airport experience in Sri Lanka.
Commenting on the meeting, Mr. Dimuthu Tennakoon, Chairman of the Board of Airline Representatives Sri Lanka, said the discussions were highly productive. “We were able to review the latest developments at BIA and explore avenues for collaborative efforts among all association members towards the growth of the country’s aviation sector. The airline country managers will now relay updates on these developments to their respective headquarters,” he said.
The meeting marks a key step in ongoing efforts to position Sri Lanka as a regional hub for aviation and air connectivity.
