Colombo, May 28 (Daily Mirror) - A seven-year-old schoolboy who had reportedly planned to travel alone to Colombo to meet his parents was rescued by police after being found waiting at the Hatton bus stand.

The child had drawn the attention of a timekeeper at the bus stand after he was seen loitering alone in his school uniform and failed to clearly explain why he was there.

The timekeeper subsequently handed the boy over to the Police for further inquiries.

During questioning, the child told police that he wanted to travel to Colombo to meet his parents, who are employed there. He had also revealed that a relative had given him money for the journey.

A senior police officer stated that the boy is a student of a leading school in Hatton and had arrived at the bus stand dressed in his school uniform.

Police said steps are being taken to submit a report to the Hatton Magistrate’s Court before handing the child over to his parents.
