20 trains cancelled due to drop in commuters

Twenty trains including night mail trains have been cancelled following the sharp drop in the number of commuters due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, the Railways Department said.

Accordingly, six-night mail trains operating from Colombo to Badulla, Trincomalee and Kankasanthurei have been cancelled. 

Meanwhile, trains operating between Colombo-Veyangoda, Colombo- Meerigama, Colombo-Ambepussa, Colombo-Panadura, Galle-Aluthgama were also cancelled, the Department said.

However, no office trains have been cancelled and six more office trains have been assigned for the purpose of maintaining social distancing among the commuters, the Department said.
