19-year-old dies in hotel lift collapse in Moratuwa

Colombo, June 15 (Daily Mirror) - The Moratuwa Police launched an investigation after a 19-year-old youth lost his life after an electric lift suddenly malfunctioned and collapsed at the Bolgoda Hotel in Moratuwa.

Police said the incident took place on Saturday (14 June) where the youth, a resident of Arukgoda in Panadura, died.

He was employed as a staff member at the hotel and had been working there for about four months.

The lift involved in the accident was reportedly designated solely for the use of hotel employees. The elevator abruptly gave way while the young man was inside, injuring him critically.

He was immediately admitted to the Panadura Base Hospital but was pronounced dead upon admission.

The management of the hotel has lodged a complaint with the Moratuwa Police regarding the incident. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the elevator collapse.
