The postmortem examination into the death of Police Seargent who was beaten to death by a group of angry residents in Kebithigollewa in Anuradhapura, revealed that the death was as a result of a blow to the head causing damage to the brain and skull.
The officer attached to the Kebithigollewa Police Station, was resident of Wariyapola. He was initially injured after being attacked by the villagers who were protesting over a death caused by wild elephant attack in the village.
Police said 16 suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the murder and one of them has been released on police bail as it was revealed that he was not directly involved in the incident.
Fourteen suspects were produced before the Kabithigollewa Magistrate's Court today and 13 suspects have been remanded until November 10. The other suspect has been detained and remanded for 48 hours for questioning. Another suspect is currently in police custody to be produced in court. (DSB)
