“When we respond, it’s like a shot from Bruce Lee,” Lal Kantha

Colombo, Jan. 22 (Daily Mirror) - Minister K.D. Lal Kantha has said that no group or individual, regardless of their attire or identity, is immune from criticism.

Addressing a public gathering, the Minister said that wearing a black coat, national dress or even a robe does not grant anyone protection from criticism. He added that those who choose to enter politics must be prepared to set aside such matters and face responses directed at them as individuals, irrespective of what they wear.

Referring to a recent film by Asoka Handagama, which reportedly ends with the line “governing isn’t as easy as it looks when you’re in the opposition,” Minister Lal Kantha said the remark was clearly aimed at the current government and required a response.

“We started our political party work in 1965. We started governing only one year ago. Our entire opposition political era has been difficult. All I have to say is that we feel more comfortable than before,” he said.

The Minister also claimed that there had been individuals within their own ranks who had joined forces with opponents and stood alongside those responsible for killing fellow party members.

He added that while the party often chooses to remain silent in the face of criticism, it occasionally responds, which he likened to “a shot from Bruce Lee.”
