Three suspects arrested in Dubai brought back to Sri Lanka

Colombo, Jan. 16 (Daily Mirror) - Two organised criminals who had been hiding in Dubai, along with a woman wanted in connection with a money laundering investigation, were arrested by a special police team and brought to Sri Lanka this morning (16).

The suspects arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake at around 5.20 a.m. on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-226 from Dubai under tight security.

Those arrested include 52-year-old Ravin Chaminda Weerasinghe, also known as “Puncha,” a resident of Elpitiya, Uragaha, and Kirieldeniyage Don Rasika Sanjeewa Kumara, also known as “Chuti Malli,” a resident of Kandana. Police said the two men are wanted in connection with multiple serious crimes, including drug trafficking, extortion, robbery, and murder.

Also arrested was 56-year-old Nishamani de Silva, a resident of Ratmalana, who is wanted in connection with a money laundering investigation.

The three suspects were initially taken to the Peliyagoda Divisional Crime Investigation Division and later escorted under heavy security to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigations.
