Colombo, May 28 (Daily Mirror) - Many popular Indian film producers and leading directors are selecting Sri Lanka and its various tourist hotspots for film shooting and have inquired with the government regarding popular and scenic locations, the Daily Mirror learns.
Sri Lanka has been a sought-after destination for international film producers, but some industry experts said that the destination had failed to be marketed for the potential it holds, resulting in leading producers looking elsewhere in South Asia and Europe.
However, the country was in the limelight once again only recently, when Hyderabad heartthrob Vijay Deverakonda from the Tollywood industry, was seen shooting for a romantic song at Galle and in the corridors of Arcade Independence Square, for a song titled, Idhayam Ulle Vaa.
In addition, a close to half-a-dozen Tamil Cinema stars including well-known faces Sivakarthikeyan and Ravi Mohan (formerly known as Jayam Ravi), also featured in their yet-to-be-released film Parasakthi.
The Parasakthi film crew had based their shooting in the Kollupitiya Railway Station, among other places.
In the meantime, the country’s tourism sector has been acting swiftly to send Sri Lanka into the spotlight as a leading destination for Indian film productions.
This was with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) participating at the 10th edition of the India International Film Tourism Conclave in Mumbai, last year.
The event, hailed as the biggest film tourism platform in India, provided a rich opportunity for the island to showcase its diverse landscape and rich culture.
