President appoints 18 new High Court judges

Colombo, Sept. 3 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed 18 new High Court Judges, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

The letters of appointment were formally handed over this afternoon at the Presidential Secretariat by President Dissanayake.

Among those appointed are 17 Special Class Judicial Officers and a Senior State Counsel serving in the Attorney General's Department, the PMD said.

These appointments were made by the President in accordance with Article 111 (2) of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Mr. D.M.D.C. Bandara Senior Assistant Secretary, Judicial Service Commission
Ms. H.M.B.R. Wijeratne Additional District Judge
Mr. D.M.A. Seneviratne Additional District Judge
Mr. A.A. Anandaraja Magistrate
Mr. G.N. Perera District Judge
Mr. A. Judeson District Judge
Mrs. W.K.D.S. Weeratunga District Judge

This is a good move to arrest laws delays. Only issue is has the government allocated suitable buildings with staff for the High Courts to sit?

There are two double promotions in the list. Usually District judge moves up to high court judge. The two magistrates Jaffna and Colombo Fort got double promotions. Check the significance of these two appointments. Please do not let your imaginations run riot.
