Colombo, April 25 (Daily Mirror) - Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya requested devotees attending the Siri Dalada Vandanawa to be careful and act responsibly. She reminded them to be mindful of their surroundings and of the people next to them in the queue.

She also urged the public not to throw plastic bags and other waste on the roads, emphasising that the government and the security forces cannot manage everything alone and that everyone must do their part.

"Standing up for this change is not an easy task. We are doing this while rebuilding the institutions and systems that were destroyed over the past 76 years. But we are moving forward, and you should have no doubts about that. To achieve this, we all must work together. We don’t just need your support, you are stakeholders in this. You are the people who took the first step toward changing the system. So, it is your responsibility to protect and represent this change," the Prime Minister said.

The authorities should place bigger bins every 20 meters or so. Plus regular clearing of these bins has to be made too. Small little bins currently placed there are overflowing. Most citizens know how to behave if they are directed well. The planning committee of this event overlooked on these important matters knowing bigger crowds are expected. Have the army to assist now in placing bigger bins and the private cleaning crew can clear them regularly.

Ha ha, where is your Clean Sri Lanka? Where is your municipal cleaning team? Where are the dustbins? People are staying in the queue for 3 days , they are given packaged food and water and they eat on the run. They sleep on the road , and when they reach the Maligawa, they are not supposed to carry anything with them in their hands, so PM you just sit and instruct, go and see the reality. No wonder why your government is run by No Plan Pacha party.

The government should have been mindful, responsible and alert of impending repercussions when taking a decision on a major religious event like the exposition of the sacred Tooth Relic knowing very well of an imminent convergence of devotees from every corner of the country and without taking an alternative course of a phased out exposition which would have saved so many lives also.
