Colombo, October 3 (Daily Mirror) - The mother of alleged notorious organised criminal Mandinu Padmasiri, alias ‘Kehelbaddara Padme' has filed a writ petition before the Court of Appeal seeking an order by way of Habeas Corpus and Writ Jurisdiction declaring that the detention order issued against her son is unlawful.
In her petition, the petitioner has further sought interim relief to prevent the authorities from transferring the detainee to any location outside the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) until the final determination of the case.
When the matter was taken up, counsel appearing on behalf of the Attorney General’s Department provided an undertaking to the court. The undertaking assured that, until the case is supported on October 23, 2025, the detainee will not be transferred to any other location. It was further stated that all investigations by the CID would be conducted while the detainee remains in custody at the Department’s premises.
President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne, with Senal Matugama, Nalaka Samarakoon and Rajindra Kandegedara, instructed by Chameera Haputhanthri, appeared for the petitioner, and the case has been fixed for October 23.
